The Stock Market
Stock market investors from around the world are worried about the state of the US economy. Some US banks have decided that their economy is already in recession or are predicting that it will be very soon.
Even if the US is not your biggest customer, a recession there would be bad news for your other trading partners and the knock-on effects would hit almost everybody.
In many ways, the stock market is similar to your local market place. It brings together people wanting to sell and people wanting to buy products at the best possible prices. However with the Stock Market we have one big difference, the transaction is undertaken by a middleman (a stock broker) through a dealing screen so we do not have direct dealings with the stock market itself. I have set up an account with Barclays Stockbrokers, I basically pay each time I buy stock rather than per month giving me time to sit back and watch the market.
You can only buy shares in public limited companies (PLCs) on the stock market. Each index comprises a collection of companies. In the UK the best-known is the Footsie - the FTSE 100 index. This reflects the average performance of the biggest 100 stock market-listed companies in the UK. I will be adding more info very soon so please visit again.

Whether you are highly experienced at investing in the stock market or an absolute beginner, there are plenty of ideas for investing in the Stock Market at mjward.co.uk. (Please read our Privacy Policy) If you already own shares in companies on the Stock Market, then these are interesting times ahead! And with some shares now priced so low maybe now this is a good time to start spending your money and investing in shares looking at it as a more long term investment!?
On my PC I have a wish list of companies that I like, maybe I simply don’t have the money to buy them or I consider them too expensive! This is monitored most days depending on how busy I am with my other businesses. Before buying any stock you should do the same, it involves getting the latest online data, (http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/) checking out estimates and working out forward price earnings (Maybe the expected divided or how a changing society or climate may effect the future of a company!)
Some companies to watch on the Stock Market in 2008
TESCO (TSCO.L) STOCKS AND SHARES : The retailer has been hotly tipped stock for 2008. Hunter rates it, as does Morgan Stanley and Justin Urquhart Stewart of Seven Investment Management. He says: 'Tesco is one to watch. It is greatly improving its overseas business in the Far East, Eastern Europe and in the US. 2008 could in fact witness up to 50% of its profits coming from abroad.'
RIFT OIL (RIFT.L) STOCKS AND SHARES : Rift Oil I invested in back in January 2008, back then it was 3p per share however it has continued to grow! (8th July 08) Rift is pleased to update shareholders further on the progress being made on the drilling of its Puk Puk-1 exploration well in Papua New Guinea. On 3 July 2008 Rift announced that drilling at Puk Puk-1 had reached the upper reservoir objective, the 'Alene Sand', and recorded gas at a depth of approximately 1760 metres, significantly higher than originally expected...
